PARADOX FOUNDRY IN APPROX. 180 seconds

What is all this?

Paradox Foundry is a growing IP (Intellectual Property) / SciFi universe. Its mission is to fuel transmedia production; meaning it could eventually support a TV or online series, movies, TTG (Tabletop Games), Card Games/Collectibles, RTS (Real Time Strategy), RPG (Role Playing Games), 1st/3rd Person Shooter Games, Books/Stories or any combination of the aforementioned.

‍ ‍

Is this a game?

Ideally, it will be. The IP is currently in development- but with enough traction and support, Paradox Foundry could be the next StarCraft, Destiny, Warhammer 40k or something completely unique and different through its own special pipeline.

‍ ‍How is it different?

Paradox Foundry’s underpinning is philosophically based. In this IP, central conflict, characters, choices and consequences are all deeply tied to the main tenants of Philosophy.

‍ ‍What is Philosophy?

Philosophy is the disciplined pursuit of answers to the deepest questions we can ask: What exists? What can we know? What has value? How should we reason? What is the nature of existence?

‍ ‍Why should I care?

Philosophy is embedded in everything that humans do and participate in through one field or another without most people realizing it. Paradox Foundry epitomizes this through civilization-scale personification and embodiment; thus allowing the audience to be active participants and observers of their own choices and consequences.

‍ ‍What’s the premise of the story?

In-Universe, the “Foundry” exists. Its location, origin, purpose, and even its design is unknown. The Foundry is responsible for an event remembered as the “The Convergence.” The Convergence pulled seven previously independent realities into a shared macrocosm– and with them, seven highly distinct Orders (civilizations) with no confirmed answer or reason as to why.

The ‘Archive’ also exists; a metaphysical repository that records all events post-convergence. Its purpose is to understand- not judge- the truths that inevitably follow and bleed from the collisions of all subjective philosophical opinions.

‍ ‍Lyra is both the Keeper of the Archive in-Universe and the mediary between the Paradox IP and the real world audience. She is solely responsible for documenting and preserving what has emerged since the Convergence.

‍ ‍Why Seven?

Philosophy in academia is [arguably] categorized by its main trunks— Epistemology (The Study of Knowledge), Ethics (The Study of Morality), Axiology (The Study of Value), Metaphysics (The Study of Reality and Existence) and Logic (The Study of Correct Reasoning). Other categories and subcategories exist within Philosophy as a whole but for sake of simplicity and plausibility, the two additional pockets that were utilized for Paradox Foundry were Philosophy of Identity (The Study of what makes things themselves) and Philosophy of Mind (The Study of Mind and Consciousness).

‍ ‍Why Orders?

Because “civilizations” or “factions” don’t do them justice as exemplars of radical doctrine or ideology. They’re each a highly organized body united by philosophical principle(s). Orders leave room for dissent- or for those within a civilization who defect or refuse to embody the mainstays of its communal majority— the very same way that humans sometimes tend to operate.

‍ ‍What can I expect from Paradox Foundry?

Paradox Foundry is meant to be an interesting, enticing and immersive Universe to explore Philosophy through the hyper-personified worlds, characters and story-driven tension. The Worldbuilding is meant to both bring the audience on a journey as well as to highlight pockets of Philosophy as they reflect similarities that are interwoven within our own world.
